One July 2012 Home Award Winner Was a One-In-Eight Pick
Imagine having one day in a new city to pick your next home. Judee and Bruce English, previously of Noblesville, had that one day in 2006. They toured eight houses in multiple Fort Wayne neighborhoods then, looking to fill some pretty specific requirements. Beyond the basics, Judee wanted big trees and a laundry chute. Bruce wanted a two-car garage.
They both wanted to have a house like the ones they had grown up in. 4801 Arlington had it all. It was their winner then and it is the neighborhood's winner now.
After moving in, they quickly came to love Southwood Park and to make the house their own. Outside, handsome dark grey house paint and a fresh hue on the front door replaced the previous bright blue siding. In the back garden, Bruce restored the custom deck, added a beautiful river birch tree, and created a nostalgic water feature for Judee. Judee is the "English gardener". Her window boxes, hanging baskets, flower cart, and garden beds are all very well-tended and look great against the sophistication of the dark grey siding.
Bruce, a self-described carpenter and CPA, got to work on the kitchen, keeping the original cabinets but adding a new ceiling and a tile countertop. It's obvious Judee and Bruce are happy with their Southwood Park home and we're happy they chose this house and this neighborhood at the end of that one day.
