One July 2012 Award Home Has an Old Porch That's a Winner

It seems the whole neighborhood noticed last year when Edith and Ben Kaufmann of 4108 Indiana stripped away an aluminum enclosure to reveal the original porch at 4108 Indiana. Google Maps still shows the "before", if you're curious.
Making the porch new again made an amazing difference as the house paint now looks fresher, the beveled glass windows of the original front door sparkle more, and the garden leading to the porch seems even more welcoming with some 2012 Mother's Day additions.   All in all, removing that aluminum was definitely a "bang for the buck" curb appeal improvement, especially because recycling the aluminum helped the project almost pay for itself.
Edith and Ben moved into their bungalow two and a half years ago to downsize.  They wanted to be close to Foster Park and closer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in Southwood Park and Foster Park neighborhoods. They moved from a two acre property that was full of trees (16 oaks, redbuds, etc.), so finding the right house in a neighborhood with lots of trees was also a priority.  Their bungalow is a perfect fit and now so very appealing with its "new" porch.  Good job!
