2024 City of Fort Wayne Neighborhood Grant Application

Update November 1, 2024

Street trees are coming! The planting contractor is expected to begin by early November and be completed by the 1st of the year. If you still have your street tree flag, please place it in your park strip. Please remember to water your new tree until the ground freezes to help ensure its survival through winter.

Update August 19, 2024

If you still have your street tree marking flag, please remember to place it back in your park strip this fall. This helps the tree planting crew quickly identify the approved planting spots. When your tree is planted, we ask that you water it until the ground freezes. This helps ensure that the tree will survive winter. If you have a street tree that was planted in the fall of 2023 but is now dead, please call 311 to report it. Those trees will be replaced.

Update May 8, 2024

You will start seeing these flags go up around the neighborhood. Please leave them in place through this fall until your new street tree is planted. If you have changed your mind about wanting a tree, please call the number on the flag asap!

UPDATE May 6, 2024

Our grant application has been approved!

Original Article February 23, 2024

With the completion of our street tree audit, we’ve used this year’s grant cycle to apply for 106 street trees! The neighborhood should have a decision from the City of Fort Wayne by mid-April 2024.

Should our grant application be approved, we will send the proposed planting sites to the City of Fort Wayne’s Arborist for evaluation. By default, we will be requesting tree species native to Indiana. Once the planting sites are confirmed, we will send each affected resident a post card reminder. As always, we will make updates to this article as this year’s grant cycle progresses.

You can use this interactive map to view what trees were planted with the 2023 grant (green tree icon) and the trees we are requesting with the 2024 grant (yellow tree icon).
