Neighborly Fireworks?
The City of Fort Wayne Government Fireworks Ordinance accomplishes little. It could be from a lack of manpower to enforce it. And it could also be from a lack of education that it exists.
Let's tackle that second part here and now.
1) In case you didn't know, the only times you can use fireworks are listed in the attached photo. (There are also allowed days on and around New Year's Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. Follow the link for full details.)
2) In case you didn't know, you can only set them off on YOUR property or another property with permission of the owner.
Now you know.
There are some other things to consider as well:
-- Neighbors have PTSD.
-- Neighbors have small children trying to sleep.
-- Neighbors have to sleep.
-- Neighbors keep windows open.
-- Neighbors with four legs are afraid of fireworks.
Our 2019 survey listed "great neighbors" as a top asset.
If you aren't following the law, are you being a "great neighbor"? If you aren't considering your neighbors when you use fireworks, are you an asset?
If you do call FWPD at 427-1222, be aware they must have an exact location where the fireworks are used. Also be aware this type of call is low priority. Please be safe and be neighborly.
