Chalk It Up To the Runners

On Saturday, September 27 close to 9,000 runners will enter The Southwood Park Neighborhood in the Fort4Fitness 10K and 1/2 Marathon. In years past neighbors have cheered on the runners, and we are hoping to have a crowd along the route again this year! In addition to our cheering faces you will notice signs and banners that we will be able to reuse for this annual event. On Friday, September 26 (weather permitting) the residents of South Wayne between Sherwood Terrace and Pasadena invite neighborhood kids and artist to create a little road art with sidewalk chalk. The road will be closed to traffic from 6pm to 7pm and the Association Board will be providing chalk for all artist in the boulevard at the Sherwood Terrace Intersection. Please come out to chalk the block!!Finally, Fort4Fitness coordinators are seeking volunteers to serve as Course Marshals. The Course Marshals are the eyes and ears of the course to help direct and protect the participants at critical points along the course.  This is a great opportunity to cheer on the runners while ensuring their safety. If you live at an intersection along the race, please consider becoming an official volunteer and helping redirect traffic away from the course. If you're ready to become a Volunteer for Fort4Fitness, please send an email to volunteer@fort4fitness.org for more information or you can register online at: http://www.fort4fitness.org/volunteer.asp.Interested in watching the race? The Half Marathon will be traveling South on Old Mill and follow Hartman Rd along the park. Runners will go east on Westover to Crestwood, going south to Sherwood Terrace. The race will exit the neighborhood via Stratford to Petite. The 1/2 marathon will re-enter South wood Park as it meets up with the 10K and follows South Wayne north all the way out of the neighborhood. Hope to see you along the course!
