One October 2012 Award Home is Their First Home

Sarah and Blaine Chambers are young first time homeowners.  To qualify the foreclosed house at 4725 Beaver for their first mortgage, they first had to do plumbing and painting work.  They did the work, they got the mortgage and they've been improving their home ever since.  Unlike most new homeowners, they tackled the outside first.  They ditched the old striped awnings, painted, landscaped the front, and replaced the back yard's overgrown hedges with a nice privacy fence.  Inside they've just completed refinishing the original hardwood floors on the first floor, a job very well done.Blaine and Sarah went to school at Indiana Tech and IPFW but they are not Fort Wayne natives so they were at first hesitant to go house hunting south of downtown.  Like so many other transplants, they were delighted to find Southwood Park.  For Blaine, the neighborhood reminded him of Flora, Indiana, his home town.  For both, they appreciate the quiet and the varied architectural styles.  They're not the first to find these aspects appealing, but that's just fine.  We welcome them to their first home here!-- Pat Thomson
