Tired of Speeding? Throw a Party.

Although we are very close to a successful speed lowering petition, we’ve got another traffic calming suggestion for residents. Throw a permitted block party! The cost for events open to the entire neighborhood and approved by the Association is only $15! For private events, the fee is still reasonable at $50. The process is pretty straightforward and approved permits come with temporary barricades at no extra cost to the resident. This allows you to enjoy your block and park strips without fear of speeding vehicles.

Last year, myself and a couple of other families on Arlington Ave hosted a fall themed block party open to the neighborhood. It was awesome to see the kids freely and safely enjoying the fresh asphalt and park strip. We were also able to form partnerships with the Allen County Public Library for an activity and story time and Ground Down provided containers to compost pumpkin guts. This same process is also used for our annual neighborhood block party. If you’re interested in doing something similar, pitch us your idea and we will do what we can to help you make your block party a success!

Another option is to host something in a park strip that doesn’t require barricades. An example of this was our partnership with Prana Yoga last fall. We were able to host morning Yoga classes without the need for a permit by using the large triangle park strip at the intersection of Indiana & Beaver. If you do plan something without a permit, please be comfortable with moving back and forth across the street with traffic and do not run cords or any other obstructions across the road.

We cant wait to see what you come up with neighbors!
